Hello,

My father was an avid collector of high quality nautical ship models. He started collecting back in the late 60's, and with his recent passing, my mother would like to thin out a portion of this collection to get some of her rooms back in the house.

One of his more unusual items is a model submarine he purchased at the first MGM Studios prop auction in California during the spring of 1972. The sub was used in two movies we were told of. One being the underwater scenes of Run Silent Run Deep and also in Ice Station Zebra. The sub is 14'-7" long, 34" high and 18" wide. The decks remove to provide access for internal piping and shafts. I will email pictures to those of you interested.

I tried to lift it yesterday at the bow and couldn't. I tapped on the hull and it sounds solid like a rock (I think fiberglass with a foamed interior coating). It must weigh a couple of hundred pounds. If you know of someone who would be interested in this rare model, please forward this post. Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

The model is located in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, an eastern suburb of Detroit, for inspection by you or your representative. If you fly in to Detroit Metro Airport, we will make arrangements to pick you up and return you to the airport (it's about a 40 minute drive).

We don't know how to establish a value on this item, but will seriously review any offer. We will assist in crating the boat by providing the labor, you pay for the materials, shipping (from mother's home - zip code 48236) and insurance.
